Sandy Hook Promise’s no-cost, evidence-based Know the Signs programs teach your school community how to create a culture of inclusion and keep schools safe. Each Start With Hello and Say Something digital training experience provides blended learning opportunities. Your students will learn critical social and emotional skills. You’ll receive lesson plans, student-centered activities, and discussion guides. These free materials reinforce and expand on the core teachings in a classroom setting.

Know the Signs Program Curriculum

Start With Hello Elementary

Grade Levels: K-2, 3-5

An interactive digital program featuring fun, colorful characters that teach children to minimize social isolation, empathize with others, and create a more socially inclusive culture. Includes a virtual storybook, short-form video series, games, and activities to reinforce the three steps of Start With Hello:  

  1. See Someone Alone
  2. Reach Out and Help
  3. Start with Hello

Supplemental materials: a downloadable PowerPoint presentation and Educator’s guide containing classroom activities.

Say Something

Grade Levels: 5-12

Training Time: 28 mins

Plug ‘n play training video that teaches students on how to look for warning signs and threats, especially in social media, from individual who may be at-risk of hurting themselves or others and “say something” to a trusted adult or call 911.

Say Something Anonymous Reporting System

Grade Levels: 5-12

Training Time: 31 mins
